The County Executive serves as the chief administrator of the county, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and enforcing laws passed by the County Council. The County Executive also has the power to appoint department heads and can sign or veto legislation affecting the entire county.
View all candidates in this raceAisha N. Braveboy is the current County Executive of Prince George's County and is seeking election to a full four-year term in 2026. Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Prince George's County, she is a proud product of Prince George's County Public Schools and a graduate of Largo High School. She earned a B.A. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a J.D. from Howard University School of Law in 2000. She began her public service career in county government before serving eight years as a Maryland State Delegate representing District 25, during which time she also ran her own law practice. She later became Manager of Government Affairs at Children's National Health System. In 2018, she was elected State's Attorney for Prince George's County — becoming the first African American woman to hold the position — and was re-elected in 2022, overseeing a $24 million budget, a staff of over 200, and a 90% homicide conviction rate. She won the June 3, 2025 special election to become County Executive following Angela Alsobrooks' election to the U.S. Senate and was sworn in on June 19, 2025. She is distinguished as the only Prince George's County official to have served in all three branches of county government. Her priorities include improving Prince George's County Public Schools, advancing public safety, creating jobs, and cleaning up county communities. With no Republicans on the ballot, the June 23, 2026 Democratic primary — in which she faces challengers Billy W. Bridges, Marcellus Crews, Charnell D. Ferguson, and Gregory Holmes — will effectively decide the next County Executive.
