Members of the Maryland House of Delegates represent their local districts in the state legislature by proposing, debating, and voting on laws that impact public education, healthcare, and transportation. They work alongside the state Senate to pass Maryland’s annual budget and determine how tax dollars are allocated to community services and infrastructure projects. This office is vital because delegates shape the statewide policies and spending priorities that directly influence the daily lives of all residents.
View all candidates in this raceAndre V. Johnson, Jr. is a Maryland House of Delegates representative for District 34A who has served since January 11, 2023 after being elected in November 2022. A lifelong resident of Harford County and born at Aberdeen Proving Grounds on June 19, 1971, he is a U.S. Army veteran who previously served as a Baltimore City Police Officer (1997-1999), Harford County Sheriff's Deputy (2000), Special Investigator for Baltimore City Housing, and Public Safety Officer at Goucher College. He also served on the Harford County Council from 2018 to 2022 before entering state office. A father of five and grandfather of three, he has mentored youth through coaching basketball and football at Patterson Mill High School in Bel Air, MD. His legislative work focuses on education, healthcare, transportation, criminal justice reform, environmental sustainability, and economic equity for working families.
