A former debate coach who guided Towson University to its first national championship in 2008, Ellis spent nearly 15 years in the corporate tech sector before launching Debate Strategies LLC after being laid off. He has served as Co-Chair of both the Baltimore City and Maryland Green Parties and previously ran for State Delegate from the 45th District. His background includes diverse work experiences ranging from kitchen staff to janitor to ticketing manager, which he credits with giving him a broad perspective on making a living. The system isn't failing by accident, it's working as designed.
Maryland needs new outcomes that put people first.
I have an enthusiastic belief in the power of language to inform, educate, and persuade.
We're running to change the incentives: to open Maryland's politics to more voices, more ideas, and better outcomes.

Two-Party System Reform
Ellis argues that the current two-party system concentrates power and blocks practical solutions, driving a crisis of democracy where government is unresponsive to voters.
“The two-party system is destroying our country and our state. The modern two-party system was designed after World War II so that two non-ideological parties could work together for the good of the country.”
Grassroots Democracy
He advocates for organizations independent of the two party system to ensure democracy is easy to access and voters are engaged all the time, not just at election season.
“I believe that grassroots democracy works best when there are organizations independent of the two party system, that are open to anyone to join.”
Essential Public Services
Ellis states that Marylanders deserve a government that solves real problems including housing, healthcare, schools, transit, clean air and water.
“Marylanders deserve a government that solves real problems—housing, healthcare, schools, transit, clean air and water—not another round of two-party trench warfare.”
Voting Rights
He highlights work developing software with the State Board of Elections for emergency provisions during COVID and leading advocacy to increase ballot access petition reliability.
“Developed software and worked with the State Board of Elections on emergency provisions to ensure grassroots voting rights during COVID State of Emergency.”
“I have an enthusiastic belief in the power of language to inform, educate, and persuade. I was on the debate team at Thomas Johnson High School and in college at Towson University.”
