House Bill 579 is focused on aiding seniors by proposing partial exemption and credits for homeowners who are 65 years old and older... Similarly, House Bill 602 gives first-time homebuyers an exemption from the Baltimore County transfer tax on the buyer's principal residence.”
Criminal Justice
Long supports stricter mandatory sentencing for criminals and backing law enforcement officers. He also addressed issues around home detention privileges abuse.
“I promise to continue fighting for stricter mandatory sentencing against criminals and support for our law enforcement officers. Voter Confidence
Long supports putting Voter ID debate on the ballot for 2026 election via constitutional amendment to restore voter confidence after the presidential election.
“Our bill is a constitutional amendment that would put the debate of Voter ID on the ballot for the 2026 election. We want the voters to decide the matter. This legislation is to address the after math of the presidential election. We need to restore voter confidence to ensure democracy in our country.”
According to an East County Times article from February 19, 2026, Delegate Long submitted legislation addressing high housing costs in Baltimore County through House Bills 579, 602, and 603. The bills aim to provide tax credits for seniors over 65, exemptions for first-time homebuyers from transfer taxes, and freeze property tax assessments at current rates. However, these bills were voted unfavorable in the Baltimore County Delegation due to concerns about revenue loss, while the County Council separately approved a 50-year tax credit worth hundreds of millions at Trade Point Atlantic.
