The Sheriff is an elected official responsible for maintaining courthouse security, serving legal documents such as warrants and evictions, and transporting individuals in custody. In many Maryland counties, the Sheriff’s Office also serves as the primary law enforcement agency, conducting patrols and investigating crimes. This office is a key part of the local justice system, ensuring that court orders are enforced and the public is protected.
View all candidates in this raceBryson Meyers was born in Oakland, Maryland and graduated from Southern Garrett High School in 2002 before earning a Criminal Justice degree from Marshall University in 2006. He joined the Garrett County Sheriff's Office in 2007 under then-Sheriff Gary Berkebile and completed training at the Western Maryland Police Academy in 2008. A 16-year veteran of law enforcement, Meyers served as a K9 handler, detective with the Narcotics Task Force, road patrol Deputy, and oversaw the Sex Offender Registry and Community Service programs before becoming Chief Deputy (Major) in 2022. He won the general election in 2022 to become Garrett County Sheriff and is currently serving in that position. Meyers is active in community organizations including the Oakland Elks Lodge #2481, Deer Park Sportsman Club, and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 99. He resides in Oakland with his wife Jessica and two children, Kalan and Silver Meyers.
