He entered the race in June against incumbent Council Member Mason Carter but withdrew from the Republican nomination on October 2 due to difficulties raising campaign funds. The primary election is scheduled for June 23, 2026. Borns has been described as a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump who posted numerous messages on social media praising Trump's performance.
According to The Frederick News-Post via Yahoo News, Chase Borns withdrew from the District 5 County Council race for the Republican nomination citing problems raising money for his campaign. Incumbent Mason Carter reached out to Borns after learning of his withdrawal and expressed hope that both could come together in the election for the good of the party. The Maryland State Board of Elections website listed Borns as having withdrawn as of October 2.
