House of Delegates Member · Legislative District 40 · Maryland · 2026 Primary
Members of the Maryland House of Delegates represent their local districts in the state legislature by proposing, debating, and voting on laws that impact public education, healthcare, and transportation. They work alongside the state Senate to pass Maryland’s annual budget and determine how tax dollars are allocated to community services and infrastructure projects. This office is vital because delegates shape the statewide policies and spending priorities that directly influence the daily lives of all residents.
View all candidates in this raceDianté Edwards is a Navy veteran and longtime community leader running for Maryland House of Delegates in District 40 to represent West Baltimore. He brings grassroots experience from leading Pigtown's neighborhood association, where he helped secure over $3 million in investments including the renovation and re-opening of the Carroll Park Community Center after it had been abandoned for over 20 years. Raised by his grandmother to understand community values, compassion, and caring, Edwards emphasizes servant leadership and elevating the power of community to create a better Baltimore. He describes himself as being of the community, for the community, and committed to standing up for all neighborhoods from Pigtown to Penn-North, Ashburton to Poppleton, Morrell Park to Hampden. His campaign is grassroots and bottom-up because he believes the current system in Annapolis is not working for residents.
