County Council Member (At-Large) · Frederick County · 2026 Primary
At-large county council members represent the entire county rather than a specific geographic district, making decisions that affect all residents. They are responsible for passing local laws, overseeing land use and zoning, and approving the county budget which determines funding for schools, roads, and public safety. This office is vital because these members balance the needs of the whole community to set the county’s long-term priorities and tax rates.
View all candidates in this raceJack Felton is a 62-year-old Lake Linganore resident and former postmaster who filed to run as a Republican in the 2026 Frederick County Council primary race for District 2. He retired from a 37-year career with the U.S. Postal Service in 2021 after serving as postmaster of the Mount Airy and Walkersville post offices, where he was frequently recognized by residents. Felton says his campaign is inspired by the civic-mindedness of his father, Carl Felton—a veteran of the D-Day invasion who ran for Frederick County commissioner after the war but was not successful—and a desire to ensure Frederick County is heading in the right direction for his two young-adult children.
