In many Maryland counties, the Sheriff’s Office also serves as the primary law enforcement agency, conducting patrols and investigating crimes. This office is a key part of the local justice system, ensuring that court orders are enforced and the public is protected.
View all candidates in this raceJim Fredericks is a life-long Anne Arundel County resident with over 30 years of law enforcement experience who served as Sheriff from 2018-2022. He married his high-school sweetheart 38 years ago, has three children and five grandchildren. His career includes local, state and federal positions, with 26 years at the Anne Arundel County Police Department before being elected sheriff in 2018. During his term he advanced technology, launched body-worn cameras, improved court security, reduced circuit court warrants, and created new facilities including a K9 facility and emergency command center. He is seeking to return as Sheriff with plans to add partnerships for courthouse security, restore accountability positions, reduce warrant backlogs, and improve deputy pay and benefits.
