The Maryland State Board of Elections lists him as an active candidate who filed on February 11, 2026. Gamble is the current Talbot County sheriff. Official Talbot County and Maryland Manual biographies say he is a retired lieutenant with the Maryland State Police, where he served in the Criminal Enforcement Division’s Homicide Unit, and that he was elected president of the Maryland Sheriffs’ Association for 2023–24.

Talbot County Sheriff Joseph Gamble sent a letter to local election officials urging them to comply with Maryland law regarding election judges, after hearing from roughly two dozen county residents concerned about a lack of Republican election judges in the county. State Elections Administrator Jared DeMarinis responded that state laws are being followed and Talbot County election officials are in compliance.
