I am running for Anne Arundel County Council to ensure District 6 has principled and independent representation that tackles the complex issues in a way that keeps people as the priority, something that status quo politics is not doing right now.
As a former federal healthcare fraud prosecutor and healthcare attorney, you can trust me to ask: who, what, where, how and why?
I will stand up for you. I would be honored to represent you and work together to strengthen our communities and move District 6 forward.
Responsible growth requires disciplined planning, enforceable standards, and an honest assessment of long-term fiscal impact — not short-term political gain.
It means keeping you informed before votes are taken and explaining consequential developments. It means creating real space for your input and not just input from the special interests.

Development
McDermott questions whether right priorities are being focused on development around Parole, Forest Drive, Solomons Island, Riva Roads, South River, and Annapolis City Dock Plan which she says morphed in expense and scope beyond citizen recommendations.
“Over the last several years, many have commented with surprise at the extensive development around Parole, Forest Drive, Solomons Island and Riva Roads, the proposed development on the South River, and the Annapolis City Dock Plan which morphed in expense and scope far beyond what citizens recommended.”
Housing
She advocates for comprehensive housing policies coordinated between City of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, reforming short-term rental regulations that undermined neighborhoods and distorted housing options.
“My advocacy for reform of short-term rental regulations in Annapolis that have negatively impacted housing options and affordability, and undermined neighborhoods, is an example of questioning the status quo that has too often left too many residents out.”
Infrastructure
McDermott raises concerns about infrastructure capacity keeping pace with growth and wants to improve how citizens get timely information on what is happening in their communities.
“There are legitimate questions about whether the right priorities are being focused on and whether our infrastructure is even keeping pace with our growth.”
Fiscal Policy
She emphasizes fiscal responsibility, accountability, and honest assessment of long-term fiscal impact rather than short-term political gain.
“Responsible growth requires disciplined planning, enforceable standards, and an honest assessment of long-term fiscal impact — not short-term political gain.”

McDermott supports strong support for law enforcement combined with experienced leadership that asks hard questions and delivers results for communities.

“If elected, I will support legislation and initiatives to: Enforce ethical, transparent, and accountable governance”
Katie McDermott has entered the Democratic primary for Anne Arundel County Council District 6, which is an open seat as current Council Member Lisa Rodvien is not seeking another term. She previously ran in the 2025 Democratic primary for Annapolis City Council Ward 1 and finished second with 31.1% of the vote. McDermott's campaign focuses on growth, infrastructure, accountability, and quality of life across a district that includes Annapolis plus surrounding communities like Crownsville and Millersville.
