His professional background includes over two decades of public service, ranging from the Pew Charitable Trusts to leading initiatives at the U.S. Department of Justice's COPS Office and serving as Deputy Director for the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. He is a gun violence survivor whose brother was killed in 1993, driving his current role as senior director at Everytown for Gun Safety where he advocates for safer neighborhoods and victims' rights. James currently serves on the Prince George's County Democratic Central Committee and emphasizes building trust through community policing and transparency to improve quality of life for everyone in the district.
