View all candidates in this raceLaura Nan Cook is a lifelong resident of Queen Anne's County and current Register of Wills, having first been elected to the position in 2014 and re-elected in 2022, and is now seeking re-election. Cook grew up on Kent Island and currently resides in Centreville, and began her career in government in Washington, D.C., serving in the Reagan Administration under Education Secretary William Bennett and then on Capitol Hill as a staff member of the Ways and Means Committee. She also previously served with the Fiscal Notes Department of the Office of Legislative Services for the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis. Cook joined the Queen Anne's County Register of Wills office in 1999 under former Register Winsie Cannon, serving as PC Administrator for many years and later as Assistant Chief Deputy before being elected to the top position.
