Board of Education Member · Washington County · 2026 Primary
Members of the Board of Education oversee the local public school system by setting educational policies, approving the annual operating budget, and hiring the superintendent. They make key decisions on matters such as student curriculum, school boundaries, and the maintenance of school facilities. This office is important because its members determine how tax dollars are spent to support student learning and the overall quality of schools in the community.

A graduate of Washington County Public Schools and Hagerstown Community College, graduating with honors in 1998, Murray has been active in Washington County public schools for many years as a parent volunteer, PTA President, a tutor of students at risk, and serving on Citizens Advisory Councils. She worked as a Paraprofessional in Special Education at Salem Avenue Elementary School for 26 years, retiring in 2016, after which she worked as a substitute teacher and volunteered as a reading tutor. She resides in Hagerstown's Oak Ridge area and serves as Church Administrator for Washington Square United Methodist Church.
According to an announcement released earlier on January 26, 2016 via her public Facebook page, Murray's statement reads: Linda is finalizing her campaign platform and wants to hear from members of the community about the issues that are important to them. Her website lists her campaign email address at FriendsofLindaMurray@gmail.com. At the time of filing, only three other candidates had filed to run for the Board of Education.
“Linda Jean Murray, a special education paraprofessional employed by Washington County Public Schools, has filed today to run for a seat on the Washington County Board of Education.”
