Board of Education Member · District 3 · Baltimore County · 2026 Primary
Members of the Board of Education oversee the local public school system by setting educational policies, approving the annual operating budget, and hiring the superintendent. They make key decisions on matters such as student curriculum, school boundaries, and the maintenance of school facilities. This office is important because its members determine how tax dollars are spent to support student learning and the overall quality of schools in the community.
View all candidates in this raceMaggie Litz Domanowski is a current member of the Baltimore County Board of Education, first elected in 2022. Born and raised in Baltimore County, she is a mother of three students currently enrolled in the public school system and presents herself as a "fiscal watchdog" for taxpayers. Her platform is built on three pillars: student-centered decision-making, transparency, and fiscal responsibility. She advocates for evidence-based curricula, full parental access to schoolwork, and more detailed budget reporting. Domanowski has gained attention for her vocal questioning of school system leadership, which led to a legal battle over a board censure that was eventually overturned by the state.

The moral imperative for a school board is that all students can and will learn. This principle must be the driving force behind every decision we make as members of the Baltimore County Board of Education.
Our students cannot be test subjects for unproven practices or curricula. We quite literally cannot afford any new resource that has not already been proven effective in increasing student achievement.
Parents need complete access to all their students' schoolwork, both before and after completion.
BCPS needs a clearer and more detailed budget with line items for every expense, from each fund, in all departments.
What [the 'BAB Club'] captures, at its core, is a group of women who are done shrinking. Women who love their kids, love their communities, and love their country.

Student-Centered Decision-Making
Ensuring academic success guides all policy and rejecting unproven educational practices.
“Every investment we make must be grounded in evidence-based practices that demonstrate measurable improvements in learning outcomes.”
Transparency
Providing parents and stakeholders full access to data, initiatives, and student schoolwork.
“Stakeholders must be able to easily access school information and data, especially data that supports any and all initiatives we undertake as a school system.”
Fiscal Responsibility
Advocating for a detailed line-item budget and a Budget Committee to track taxpayer spending.
“I will continue to advocate for full fiscal responsibility in our operating budget... BCPS needs a clearer and more detailed budget with line items for every expense, from each fund, in all departments.”
Independent Oversight
Supporting external monitoring to ensure effective use of the school system's growing budget.
“The introduction of independent oversight through Maryland’s [oversight] is vital to student success.”
In March 2024, the Baltimore County school board voted 7-4 to censure Domanowski for alleged "rude and disrespectful conduct" toward Superintendent Myriam Rogers during a budget hearing. However, the Maryland State Board of Education reversed the censure in August 2025, finding the local board's decision lacked merit after reviewing video of Domanowski questioning potential 50% cuts to career readiness programs. Media reports have variously described her as an "independent leader" and a figure who has brought national "culture war" debates to the local school board.
