Members of the Maryland House of Delegates represent their local districts in the state legislature by proposing, debating, and voting on laws that impact public education, healthcare, and transportation. They work alongside the state Senate to pass Maryland’s annual budget and determine how tax dollars are allocated to community services and infrastructure projects. Amprey is an attorney, former educator, and third-generation resident of Maryland's 40th District who was sworn in as Delegate on January 13, 2021, with his first full term elected in 2022. He previously worked as a Teach for America Corps Member and elementary/middle school teacher at SEED School of Maryland before attending University of Pennsylvania Law School where he received scholarships from the Congressional Black Caucus and NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Currently practicing corporate law with focus on transactions and governance, he remains committed to improving outcomes for Baltimore children through board service with Boys and Girls Club and Code in the Schools. He lives in Hampden with his wife Normandi and daughter Amara, and serves as Deputy Majority Whip, Treasurer of the Legislative Black Caucus, and sits on multiple subcommittees including Economic Matters.
