The Clerk of the Circuit Court serves as the chief record-keeper for the county, managing all court documents for civil and criminal cases as well as property deeds and land records. This official is also responsible for issuing marriage and business licenses and swearing in various public officials. By overseeing these administrative functions, the Clerk ensures that legal records are accurately maintained and that essential government services are accessible to the public.
View all candidates in this raceMegan LeRoux is a Frederick County resident and Democratic candidate seeking election as Clerk of the Circuit Court for Frederick County in 2026. She has over 20 years of experience in the Maryland Judiciary, beginning her career as a courtroom clerk in Montgomery County before transferring to the District Court in Frederick County and ultimately transitioning to the Circuit Court for Frederick County, where she has worked since 2006. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from the University of Maryland University College and in 2016 completed the highly regarded four-year Institute for Court Management certification program, after which she was accepted into the ICM Fellows Diploma program. More recently, she has worked as a victim advocate and paralegal at Heartly House, a Frederick County nonprofit providing free legal services to survivors of domestic violence. This is her third campaign for the position, having previously run as the Democratic nominee in 2018 and 2022.
