House of Delegates Member · Legislative District 29C · Maryland · 2026 Primary
Members of the Maryland House of Delegates represent their local districts in the state legislature by proposing, debating, and voting on laws that impact public education, healthcare, and transportation. They work alongside the state Senate to pass Maryland’s annual budget and determine how tax dollars are allocated to community services and infrastructure projects. This office is vital because delegates shape the statewide policies and spending priorities that directly influence the daily lives of all residents.
View all candidates in this raceMike Fechtmann is a Democratic candidate running for the Maryland House of Delegates in Legislative District 29C in 2026. A 37-year-old first-time candidate and Lusby resident, he is an entrepreneur and former employee at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. He filed the day before the February 24 filing deadline after noticing that incumbent Republican Del. Todd Morgan was running unopposed, saying he "felt the need to step up." District 29C covers central St. Mary's County and southern Calvert County, including Lusby, Beauvue, and Drayden. His campaign priorities include improving the Governor's Bridge, which he would like to see preserved and converted into a scenic viewing area rather than demolished, with a stronger drawbridge built alongside it to connect Calvert and St. Mary's counties. He also focuses on affordability, with a particular interest in agriculture, gardening, and native plants as a way to make healthy food more accessible to families. He is one of four Democrats competing in the primary — alongside J.W. Abney, Eric F. Immler, and Shaara Watts — for the right to challenge Morgan, who won the seat in 2022 with 61.7 percent of the vote.
