The County Executive serves as the chief administrator of the county, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and enforcing laws passed by the County Council. This official proposes the annual budget that directs how local tax dollars are spent on services such as public schools, roads, and emergency response. The County Executive also has the power to appoint department heads and can sign or veto legislation affecting the entire county.

Mithun Banerjee filed a lawsuit in Montgomery County Circuit Court naming 15 defendants after being excluded from a public forum debate where two of his Democratic competitors participated. He alleged possible racism and discrimination because he is a landlord, Asian-American and an immigrant, requesting $870,170 in damages equal to the maximum limit on public funds per candidate per election. Defendants including Montgomery County Renters Alliance Inc. and Montgomery Community Media said the lawsuit has no merit.
