The Clerk of the Circuit Court serves as the chief record-keeper for the county, managing all court documents for civil and criminal cases as well as property deeds and land records. This official is also responsible for issuing marriage and business licenses and swearing in various public officials. She is a daughter of immigrants and the first woman in her family to attend university, having graduated from Chesapeake High School, University of Maryland College Park, and University of San Diego Law School in 1993 before becoming a member of the Maryland State Bar. Her public service began as a lawyer in the Office of the Public Defender where she worked to provide access to justice and legal representation to indigent clients. She emphasizes customer service excellence, improved access to court services, and efficiency in handling business licenses, marriage licenses, land records, and other legal matters at the courthouse.
