View all candidates in this raceNathan W. Foltz is a candidate running for the Frederick County Board of Education in 2026. A 1995 graduate of Middletown High School in Frederick County, he worked as a special education, physical education, and health teacher for more than 15 years in Morgan and Berkeley counties in West Virginia. He has also worked as an annuities salesman for Ohio National Life Insurance Company and as a therapeutic consultant behavioral specialist for EastRidge Health Systems in Martinsburg, West Virginia. His primary campaign focus is advocating for increased special education funding from state and federal governments, a concern he says has become urgent following the Trump administration's proposed cuts to the U.S. Department of Education, including staff responsible for distributing funding through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. He is also calling for closer scrutiny of Frederick County Public Schools' administrative practices following a U.S. Department of Justice investigation into the district's use of seclusion and restraint against students with disabilities. Additionally, he draws on personal experience with alcohol addiction — having undergone inpatient treatment after multiple DUI convictions between 1996 and 2010 — as part of his commitment to educating students about the dangers of alcohol abuse. The Frederick County Board of Education race is nonpartisan, with four seats on the ballot in 2026.
