View all candidates in this raceRich Godlove is a Frostburg resident and Republican candidate seeking election as Sheriff of Allegany County in 2026. Age 53, he is a former officer with the Cumberland Police Department and has also worked for the Federal Bureau of Corrections. He brings a business background as well, having previously opened a restaurant in Frostburg that he subsequently transitioned to new ownership while remaining as landlord. His campaign priorities include transparency and public engagement in how law enforcement actions are undertaken while protecting individual privacy, and fiscally responsible management of the sheriff's office through thorough auditing and cross-agency collaboration. With no Democratic candidates in the race, the winner of the June 23, 2026 Republican primary — which also includes Andrew Opel of Cumberland and David Morgan of Cumberland — will effectively be elected sheriff, as incumbent Craig Roberson is retiring after four terms.
