Members of the Maryland House of Delegates represent their local districts in the state legislature by proposing, debating, and voting on laws that impact public education, healthcare, and transportation. They work alongside the state Senate to pass Maryland’s annual budget and determine how tax dollars are allocated to community services and infrastructure projects. This office is vital because delegates shape the statewide policies and spending priorities that directly influence the daily lives of all residents.

She is the first African American woman to represent this district and has lived in Baltimore for over twenty years. An international public health leader with a global view but a heart for home, she brings her career-long advocacy efforts to office for Baltimoreans. Lewis prioritizes creating a healthier, safer Baltimore that provides a high quality of life for its citizens through focused work on public health, transit, and safe and livable communities. She serves on the Health & Government Operations Committee and is a founding member of the Maryland Transit Caucus. Notably, she is the only state legislator who is car-free by choice, utilizing walking, transit, biking, and rideshare to demonstrate her commitment to fixing obstacles constituents face daily.
