View all candidates in this raceShelley Aloi is a lifelong Frederick resident and Republican candidate seeking election to the Maryland State Senate representing Legislative District 3, which covers the city of Frederick. A graduate of Thomas Johnson High School and Hood College, where she earned a B.S. in biochemistry and mathematics, she has had a diverse career as a medical research scientist at the National Cancer Institute at Fort Detrick, a math and science educator at the middle and high school levels, a banking analyst, and most recently as Executive Director of the Marriage Resource Center of Frederick County. She served as an Alderman in the City of Frederick from 2009 to 2013, and in 2014 was selected as the Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor on the ticket with Delegate Ron George. She also ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Frederick in 2017 and for the Frederick County Council District 3 seat in 2022. She is now running unopposed in the June 23, 2026 Republican primary and will face Democratic incumbent Karen Lewis Young, who won the District 3 seat in 2022 with 66.5 percent of the vote, in the November 3, 2026 general election.
