Born two months early at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore City and raised in Glen Burnie by a utility lineman father and teacher assistant mother, he is a first-generation college graduate from Salisbury University where he founded the golf team before earning a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore. Before entering public service, he worked on farms for Perdue & Mountaire Farms and ran Schmidt Properties & Investments at Keller Williams Realty. He resides in Crofton with his wife Michele and son Cooper, whom he has coached baseball for 14 years, and is active in local organizations including the American Legion and Kiwanis. His legislative agenda focuses on open primaries (HB496), religious freedom protections, small business support, and energy affordability to lower costs for Maryland families.
