View all candidates in this raceTalibah Chikwendu is an incumbent member of the Dorchester County Board of Education representing District 2, seeking election to a full term in 2026. A lifelong graduate of Dorchester County Public Schools, she has spent her entire career serving the district in various capacities, including as a secondary teacher, school librarian and media specialist, substitute teacher, and attendance secretary. She became a school librarian a decade ago and has served as a high school teacher for the past five years before joining the board. She was appointed to the District 2 seat in April 2024 by the Dorchester County Council to fill the vacancy left by the passing of Theresa Stafford, who had been elected in 2022 but passed away in December 2023 after battling cancer. Chikwendu was chosen for her deep institutional knowledge of the district and her commitment to community service. She currently serves as Vice President of the board, with Sheri Hubbard serving as President. She is running unopposed in 2026. Her priorities have centered on ensuring District 2 — which encompasses the majority of the county's school children — has a strong voice in district decisions, promoting transparency, and improving academic outcomes as the district works to raise its ranking among Maryland's 23 counties.
