Members of the Maryland House of Delegates represent their local districts in the state legislature by proposing, debating, and voting on laws that impact public education, healthcare, and transportation. They work alongside the state Senate to pass Maryland’s annual budget and determine how tax dollars are allocated to community services and infrastructure projects. View all candidates in this raceTazeen Ahmad is a longtime Montgomery County resident who has lived in District 16 for over four decades, where she raised two children who are graduates of MCPS and built her career managing small businesses for 25 years. She currently serves as Chief Financial Officer at a bipartisan government relations firm in Washington, D.C., and holds a B.A. in Political Science and Master's degree in Journalism. Her public service record includes serving on the Board of Directors for Interfaith Works, which provides shelter and employment programs to more than 35,000 residents annually, being appointed by Governor Wes Moore to the Maryland Commission for Women in November 2024, and being appointed by County Executive Marc Elrich to the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board in April 2025. She co-founded the Up 2 Us Foundation with her daughter in 2019 to combat food insecurity across Maryland and Washington, D.C., delivering over 1 million pounds of food during the COVID-19 pandemic through partnerships with local nonprofits and faith-based organizations. As former President of the Montgomery County Women's Democratic Club, she has advocated for expanded voting rights, affordable childcare, school meals, reproductive health access, and safe housing.
