Members of the Maryland House of Delegates represent their local districts in the state legislature by proposing, debating, and voting on laws that impact public education, healthcare, and transportation. They work alongside the state Senate to pass Maryland’s annual budget and determine how tax dollars are allocated to community services and infrastructure projects. Turner is a Fort Washington resident and current member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 26, which covers Friendly, Oxon Hill, and Fort Washington in Prince George's County, seeking re-election in 2026. Born in Washington, D.C. on February 7, 1950, she attended Prince George's Community College, Tennessee State University, and the George Meany Center for Labor Studies. She served as President of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 63 from 1996 to 2018, and was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2002, serving from 2003 to 2015. After declining to run for re-election in 2014 to challenge for a State Senate seat, she returned to the House of Delegates in 2018 and has served since January 9, 2019. She currently serves on the Economic Matters Committee and is a member of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland and Women Legislators of Maryland. She is running in the June 23, 2026 Democratic primary alongside incumbents Kris Valderrama and Jamila Woods, as well as challengers Reginald Martin and Dani Moore-King, with the top three vote-getters advancing to face Republicans JoAnn Fisher and Ike Puzon in the November 3, 2026 general election.
