Wivell is a lifelong Washington County resident and current member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 2A, which covers part of western Washington County and northern Frederick County including Thurmont and Emmitsburg, seeking re-election in 2026. Born June 9, 1964, in Smithsburg, he previously served on the Washington County Board of County Commissioners for two terms before being appointed to the House of Delegates by Governor Larry Hogan in February 2015 to fill the vacancy left by Delegate Andrew Serafini's appointment to the Maryland Senate. He was first elected to the seat in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, winning with 98.2 percent of the combined vote alongside running mate William Valentine. He currently serves on the Economic Matters Committee, where he sits on the Economic Development and Housing and Real Property subcommittees, and is an endowment life member of the National Rifle Association. A conservative voice on fiscal policy, agricultural issues, and transportation infrastructure, he is running unopposed in the Republican primary alongside incumbent William Valentine and will face Democratic challenger Aamina Hutchison in the November 3, 2026 general election.
