View all candidates in this raceWilliam V. Nichols is a Cambridge resident and current Democratic member of the Dorchester County Council representing District 2, seeking re-election in 2026. He has served on the County Council since 2002, making him one of the longest-serving council members in Dorchester County history, and recently noted during the 2026 budget process that it was the worst budget he had seen in his 30 years on the council. During his tenure he has served as Council President from December 2006 to December 2008 and again from December 2018 to December 2019, and as Vice President on multiple occasions. He has served continuously on the Board of Estimates, the Board of Health, the Board of Liquor License Commissioners, the Joint Committee on the Public School System, and most recently the Board of Recreation and Parks. He is running in the June 23, 2026 Democratic primary against challenger Yvonne Penn, with the winner advancing to the November 3, 2026 general election.
