Members of the Maryland House of Delegates represent their local districts in the state legislature by proposing, debating, and voting on laws that impact public education, healthcare, and transportation. They work alongside the state Senate to pass Maryland’s annual budget and determine how tax dollars are allocated to community services and infrastructure projects. This office is vital because delegates shape the statewide policies and spending priorities that directly influence the daily lives of all residents.

Valentine is an Emmitsburg, Frederick County resident and current member of the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 2A, which covers east Washington County and north Frederick County, seeking re-election in 2026. Born in 1971/1972, he graduated from Delone Catholic High School in 1989 and earned an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice from Frederick Community College in 1991. He had a 25-year career in law enforcement, working as a police officer in Thurmont from 1994 to 1998 and again from 2003 to 2005, as a Deputy Sheriff in Garrett County in between, and ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant in the Westminster Police Department in 2019. He subsequently worked as an investigator with the Frederick County State's Attorney's Office before being elected to the House of Delegates in November 2022. He currently serves on the Judiciary Committee, where he sits on the Public Safety, Juvenile, and Estates and Trusts subcommittees, and has served as Deputy Minority Whip. He is running unopposed in the Republican primary alongside incumbent William J. Wivell and will face Democratic challenger Aamina Hutchison in the November 3, 2026 general election.
